Immersive Agriculture at Campbell Land

Updated: Aug 1

Nestled in the heart of the Peace Country, Alberta, Canada, lies a hidden gem known as Campbell Land near Grimshaw, Alberta. This family-run farm, owned and operated by Brian and Michelle Campbell, boasts a storied history dating back to the early 1900s. Sprawling across 6000 acres, Campbell Land is a grain farm cultivating a variety of crops such as wheat, barley, peas, canola, and oats.

However, Campbell Land offers more than just a glimpse into traditional farming practices. The farm has opened its doors to international visitors, providing them with a truly immersive experience in agriculture and farm life. Since 2011, Campbell Land has been hosting international students, welcoming them as part of the extended family and encouraging them to become fully integrated into the local community. Interns at Campbell Land are not just mere observers; they actively participate in various farm activities, gaining hands-on experience in operating, servicing, and maintaining equipment. This hands-on approach not only equips them with practical skills but also instills qualities such as independence, teamwork, leadership, and a strong work ethic. Former interns have raved about their time at Campbell Land, citing the transformational impact it has had on their lives. From building confidence to creating lasting memories, the experience at Campbell Land is truly one-of-a-kind. The farm offers a plethora of activities ranging from equipment maintenance to crop harvesting and animal care, ensuring that interns obtain a well-rounded understanding of farm operations. There are many off farm activities too. The North Peace Stampede is just down the road from the farm. There is kayaking on the river or tubing on Lac Cardinal lake. Sometimes the interns volunteer in the community or take in local events like the Pioneer Days or Harvest Moon Festival. One of the key aspects that sets Campbell Land apart is its focus on providing international students with practical, hands-on experience in farm operations and equipment maintenance. By immersing themselves in the day-to-day workings of the farm, interns not only learn valuable skills but also develop a deep appreciation for the agricultural industry. Some interns work on various other projects like photography, social media, cooking, baking, painting and gardening. There is something for everyone. In conclusion, Campbell Land offers a unique and enriching experience for international students seeking to broaden their horizons and acquire practical skills in agriculture. With a welcoming atmosphere, diverse range of activities, and ample opportunities for personal growth, Campbell Land leaves a lasting impact on all who have the privilege of being a part of this immersive agricultural experience.
